CASE STUDY
CLIENT: Beholding Web App
THE CHALLENGE
People have more digital tools than ever, but spiritual formation can easily become another thing to consume, track, or check off a list.
The challenge was to take the broad idea of beholding God and translate it into a digital experience that felt simple, personal, and meaningful. It needed to help people slow down, engage with spiritual practices, and build rhythms that fit real life without turning formation into another productivity system.
The bigger question was: How do you use technology to help people become more present, not more distracted?
THE STRATEGY
The strategy was to build the web app around the client’s brand presence while staying focused on the core user experience.
1. Start With the Big Idea
Define beholding as the organizing principle for the entire experience. The concept shaped the content, features, visual language, brand recognition, and user journey so the app felt like one cohesive experience rather than a collection of tools.
2. Design Around the Person
Start with the user's real life, needs, attention, and habits. Build an experience that can meet people in different seasons and offer a meaningful next step, without assuming everyone needs the same thing.
3. Turn Content Into a Journey
Rather than creating another content library, connect Scripture, prayer, reflection, spiritual practices, and guided experiences into clear pathways. The goal was to help users move from discovery → engagement → reflection → practice.
4. Personalize With Purpose
Use assessments, user input, engagement patterns, and optional behavioral signals to make the experience more responsive over time. Personalization was designed to surface helpful invitations, not diagnose, score, or optimize people.
5. Make Emerging Technology Serve the Experience
Explore AI, Apple Health and Apple Watch data, personalization, reminders, and other technology where they could genuinely improve the user's experience. The technology had to serve the broader purpose of guiding the user to a strong next step by providing a faith practice in that moment.
6. Connect the Ecosystem
Bring content, UX, personalization, technology, visual design, and community together into one flexible platform. Each piece was designed to work independently while strengthening the overall experience.
7. Turn Learning Into Practice
The experience is designed to help users practice their faith, not just learn about it. Instead of relying on traditional lessons, the app introduces practices through interactive, low-friction experiences that make participation feel approachable and even fun.
THE RESULT
The result is a digital formation experience designed to move people from consuming content to actively engaging with it.
Beholding brings together guided spiritual practices, Scripture, prayer, journaling, personalized assessments, AI-powered conversation, reminders, and community connections in one experience.
The personalization strategy creates room for the experience to become more relevant over time, using user input and engagement patterns to help people recognize what practices are meaningful to them and build sustainable rhythms.
Most importantly, the technology serves the experience rather than competing with it.
Instead of asking, “What can this app do?” the strategy asks, “What does this person need to take their next step?”
